How To Increase Your Blog’s Readership

Writing blog posts have become a common method for companies to nurture relationships with their consumers, as well as market their products to a wider audience. In a world where there is an overabundance of blogs, however, how do you ensure that your blog catches the eye of the discerning reader? Here are 4 tips to increase your blog's viewership rate:

1) Make It Accessible

First things first: If consumers aren’t able to find your blog, they won’t be able to read it. So, in order to attract new viewers, we need to get your blog noticed by search engines such as Google. Start your search engine optimization process by using Google AdWords to conduct research on the most appropriate keywords to use in your content. Optimise your blog for broad mainstream keyword choices, but also try to use long-tail keywords to narrow down the competition when consumers are looking for specific content.

2) Create Significant Content

Blogs are highly subjective, and they represent your (or your company’s) view on the world, so focus on bringing your perspective to blogging. The content you choose should hence be your take on something that you find significant or interesting. Don’t forget, though, to make it beneficial for the consumer. Write articles that promote active learning, or articles that will be useful for your field. This makes your blog useful and meaningful, as readers know that they’ll be getting a knowledgeable point of view on the world.

3) Minimise Advertising

In a company blog, some articles are meant to help promote a product. That’s how you’ll make money from the blog, after all. The majority of your content on the blog, though, should be focused on providing useful information for the readers. If a blog relies on the selling of products as articles, then your credibility as a voice of reason will be lost, and your blog will become just another advertising portal.

4) Build Sustainability

Readers come and go, and loyalty is hard to attain. In order to maintain a relationship with readers, ask them to sign up for an email subscription. Subscribers can then get your latest articles in their email inbox, allowing them one-click access. This keeps your existing readership database coming back, as they won’t have to go through the hassle of looking for your blog every time they want to read it. Add in categories of news that they can choose from, hence ensuring that articles you send out will be relevant to them.
